it would help. If the board was working fine for a long time, then suddenly became unstable, that would point to a hardware problem and not a firmware problem. Usually I'd suspect a firmware issue if someone just built a system, and it isn't stable. Then an updated Bios could help. But if it's working fine, then suddenly becomes unstable, I would think that a piece of hardware just went bad, or it's overheating. I don't think a bios flash could fix that. But I have seen Bioses become corrupted, so it's always worth a try.
